Unity through Torment

          Fahima Akter Mili

Staying united at the time of adversity is very difficult. But AHUT showed us something we could ever ask for. This is Fahima Akter Mili, a student at  the school of Software Engineering, Anhui University of Technology. I tend to follow my elder brother a lot, and that also happened with choosing my major. And surprisingly, last autumn I got into the same university as my brother did.

Everything was going alright. I was able to get good grades and meet such amazing teachers and friends from around the world. But, who knew something unexpected was going to happen and leave everyone in this deadly situation? So, my parents decided to bring me and my brother back home.

I feel very fortunate that we could escape from that situation. But everyone in China has to fight with it. We were and still are worried about the situation and our future. I thought everything was going to turn upside down. Because if we couldn't graduate on time we had to cope with many problems in the future. But that did not happen, our honorable university officials showed what responsibility is. They made the decision to continue teaching online.

At first attending the classes on time was something to be anxious about. Because I live in Bangladesh, a developing country and load shedding is a common problem for the general people, and sometimes I don't get strong internet connection. However the teachers were generous enough to give us the flexibility to learn smoothly and not fall behind. Frankly speaking, there are times when I don't feel like watching videos but when I see how cooperative the teachers are, I can not help it.

Personally I think the idea of online study is very effective in this condition. Our officials have made the right decision. Because nobody knows when this Coronavirus epidemic is going to end, and we can not just sit back and wait for the nightmare to vanish.

Everytime I think about it and realize how fortunate we are to have these wonderful teachers, who despite the situation, are working very hard to provide us with quality education. To be honest, I have not seen a single teacher who is this much dedicated to his or her students. Some of the teachers I have not even met in person, are eager to help us day and night. During this 6 or 7 months period never did I ask for help from my teachers as well as the advisors and they rejected my request.

I appreciate your  time and efforts. I'm thankful to everyone in the AHUT family. I pray everyone stays safe and this epidemic ends soon. Salute to the Fighters of AHUT. Hope we can reunite very soon.
