The School of Computer Science and Technology at Anhui University of Technology traces its origins to the Electronic Computer program (undergraduate) offered by the Ma’anshan City Teaching Class of Ma’anshan Iron and Steel College in 1978. In 1985, the Department of Industrial Automation began enrolling students in the Computer and Application program. In 1999, the Computer Teaching and Research Section merged with the university’s Computing Center to establish the Department of Computer Science. In 2000, the School of Computer Science was founded, followed by the approval of a master’s program in Computer Science in 2003. In 2013, the school was renamed the School of Computer Science and Technology. In 2016, it enrolled its first cohort of international students. In 2020, the Software School was established under the School of Computer Science and Technology. In 2021, it was approved as the "AI School Integrating Science and Education" by the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2022, in the fifth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education, the "Computer Science and Technology" discipline achieved significant progress, ranking second among provincial universities in Anhui Province. In 2024, the Computer Science discipline entered the ESI global top 1% for the first time, and Artificial Intelligence was selected as a distinctive discipline construction project in Anhui Province. Leveraging the university’s industry-specific strengths, the school focuses on cutting-edge disciplines, national strategies, and regional industry demands. It has long been engaged in research and talent cultivation in the digitalization, networking, and intelligentization of industrial fields, including new distributed network computing, intelligent sensing and machine learning, and intelligent process software system integration and optimization. It has developed a distinctive industry-oriented computer discipline, having trained over 11,000 undergraduates and more than 1,100 postgraduate students, who are widely praised by society. The school currently offers a doctoral program direction in Metallurgical Intelligence, a first-level master’s program in Computer Science and Technology, and a professional master’s program in Electronic Information, while also enrolling international master’s students in Computer Technology. It hosts several research and transformation platforms, including the Anhui Provincial Key Laboratory of Metallurgical Industry Digital Twin Technology, the Anhui Provincial Engineering Research Center for Industrial Internet Intelligent Application and Security, the Anhui Provincial Engineering Research Center for Metallurgical Industry Software Technology, the Anhui Provincial Common Technology Research Center for Industrial Enterprise Intelligence, and the Anhui University of Technology Information Technology Research Institute. The school comprises five key research teams: Computer Networks and Distributed Computing, Visual Perception and Machine Learning, Big Data Mining and Intelligent Computing, Complex Systems and Intelligent Control, and Domain Software Engineering. The school offers four undergraduate programs: Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence, supported by two teaching departments: the Intelligent Computing Center Teaching and Research Section and the Computer Experiment Center. The Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering programs are national first-class undergraduate program construction sites. The Internet of Things Engineering program is a provincial first-class undergraduate program construction site and an industry-education integration pilot program. Artificial Intelligence is an emerging program and a pilot program for integrating science and education. The Computer Experiment Center is a member unit of the China Computer Federation. The Computer Science and Technology program is accredited by the Ministry of Education’s Engineering Education Professional Certification, and both the Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering programs have received an A+ rating in Anhui Province’s professional evaluation. In addition to regular enrollment, the Artificial Intelligence program also offers an "Elite Class" for enrollment and cultivation. Courses such as *Introduction to Databases*, *Data Structures*, *C Language Programming*, and *Computer Organization Principles* have been recognized as national first-class courses. Four courses have been included in the National Smart Teaching Platform. The school has received three special prizes, two first prizes, and four second prizes in provincial teaching achievement awards. The school currently has 97 faculty members, including 11 professors, 22 associate professors, 8 doctoral supervisors, 41 master’s supervisors, 48 doctoral degree holders, and 2 faculty members pursuing doctoral degrees. It boasts one talent supported by the China Association for Science and Technology’s Youth Support Program, one strategic leading talent in Anhui Province’s emerging industries, three Baosteel Outstanding Teachers, four provincial-level teaching masters, and one outstanding teacher in Anhui Province. Over the past five years, the school has undertaken more than 80 high-level projects, including special projects from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, National Natural Science Foundation projects, provincial major projects, and significant industry-academia-research collaboration projects. It has received six provincial teaching achievement awards and four provincial and industry science and technology awards. The school has published over 150 high-quality papers, including those in CCF A-class journals and conferences, ESI highly cited papers, and JCR Zone 1 journals. Relevant research achievements have been applied in large enterprises such as Baosteel, Ma Steel, Laiwu Steel, and China National Salt Industry Corporation, achieving internationally advanced levels in areas like metallurgical intelligence. The school currently has over 2,500 students, including more than 2,200 undergraduates, over 300 postgraduate students, and more than 80 international students. In recent years, many outstanding undergraduate graduates have been recommended or admitted to master’s or doctoral programs at prestigious domestic universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, National University of Defense Technology, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, University of Science and Technology of China, Southeast University, and Xiamen University. The school actively organizes students to participate in various international and domestic competitions, including the College Students Innovation Competition, Challenge Cup, Robot Contest, Zhongzhi Cup, Programming Contests, and Mathematical Modeling. Its innovation and entrepreneurship education has achieved remarkable results. For example, since 2016, the YuShan team from the school has won eight championships and four runner-up titles in the RoboCup China Open Simulation 2D competition, advanced to the top eight in the international RoboCup World Cup for 11 consecutive years, securing one runner-up and five third-place finishes, and won two championships in the Iran Open. The school has also won two national special prizes and two first prizes in the China Intelligent Manufacturing Challenge. (Data as of September 2025) |
